FLOUTED MAXIMS IN VERBALLY EXPRESSED HUMOUR FORMS IN AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON MOVIE

Abstrak

In this research the writer discussed a movie Avengers: Age of Ultron, which the writer found out that there are Verbally Expressed Humor (VEH) forms despite the movie main genre is not comedy. This movie then proceed on how the VEH forms could achieve the humorous effect. The writer latter found that Grice’s Conversational Maxims (GCM) are being flouted in order to help VEH forms to construct a humor. The writer used Pragmatic approach to analyze this Movie, supported by Grice’s theory of conversational maxim include Maxim of Quality, maxim of Quantity, maxim of relation and maxim of manner. In this research, the writer used library research to gain the data. While qualitative elaborated the idea. In this research, the data were gathered and processed. Moreover, the analysis is the VEH forms that include joke, satire and parody, irony and sarcasm, banter, wordplay and pun, and the last are register humor and saying things funny. Therefore, the way that VEH forms flouted GCM construct the humorous effect inside the movie.
