TRANSITIVITY ANALYSIS IN THE JAKARTA POST: REYNHARDS RAPE CASE TARNISHES INDONESIAS GLOBAL REPUTATION STATE PALACE

Analyzing transitivity has been a major concern in discourse studies. This present study is concerned with the application of Hallidays theory of transitivity in the article about Reynhard Sinaga. This study analyzed an article posted on The Jakarta Post on Thursday, January 9th, 2020 and use descriptive qualitative method to analyze the transitivity in the article. The finding of this study showed that material process is the most dominant type of process used in the text. Goal becomes the most dominant type of participants and temporal location is the most dominant type of circumstances used in the news article. This result hopefully can be an insight of systems of transitivity used in the article.
