THE RECONSTRUCTION OF HEGEMONY ON SEXUALITY AS DESCRIBED IN BRAM STOKER’S DRACULA

Abstrak

Dracula is a novel which tells about the life of Count Dracula and his brides. This novel is the object of this research. This research analyzes about the reconstruction of hegemony on sexuality as described in Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Through this research, the researcher would like to discuss about how woman sexual fantasy become the primary imaginary in leading sexual intercourse because, commonly people know that man become the hegemony side of sexual intercourse and  commonly people know that man is more aggressive in doing sexual intercourse. So here, the researcher wants to emphasize that woman also has role in leading sexual intercourse. To analyze the issue inside of the novel, the researcher uses post-structuralism as the main approach in this research. By using post-structuralism, the researcher can reveal the reconstruction of hegemony on sexuality that appears in the novel. In conclusion, women and men are bounded with sexuality. Sexuality as the part of human life and becomes the primary needs. Here, the research have found that actually women are  able to be a leader in sexual relationship and break out the general role of men hegemony role in sexuality as seen in Stoker’s Dracula. In order to allow the reader to reveal in the richness and complexity in this text, it is imperative to discuss the sexual symbolism that Stoker weaves into his tale.
